Live and Work

Virtual Enterprise

A conference table sits in the middle of the classroom. The guys are wearing suits and ties and the girls are dressed in business attire and heels. Small groups of students enthusiastically debate mark-ups, logos and what it will take to make people want to buy their product. This is the Virtual enterprise class at MVHS which is unlike any other class offered at the school. Students run a virtual business through the International Virtual Enterprise network.

When the students enter the classroom they report to their respective departments. They complete a time sheet and are expected to call if they are going to be absent. They are just in class they are at work, learning essential business and entrepreneurial skills and gaining an understanding of what it takes to compete in a global economy. They payroll department maintains payroll record for each “employee” and they miss a day of work they miss a day of pay.

MVHS teacher Joel Levin called on the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce to help find business partners to assist the student by volunteering their time and lending their expertise in special areas related to the students business. Bankers, graphic designers, advertising executives, marketing experts, web designers all helped the students by providing a look into what the real work world is all about.

The Murrieta Chamber is proud to partner with the School district and look to providing a direct link to the business community.
