Chamber Member- Roland Behney - Bear Creek Chronicle
For the 50 years I worked in the business world it was always a number one corporate priority to belong to the local chamber and support their activities.
I have always believed in the Chamber movement, and the promotion of local businesses using the influence of the Chamber and the synergism of Chamber member activities.
Most members and non-members don’t really understand all of the things the Chamber does…
A good example would be lobbying on the city and county level, with local government entities; on the state level and on the federal level for legislation favorable to the business community. I know that our Chamber supports lobbying organizations that work in Sacramento on our behalf.
And I know that we support the California Chamber of Commerce thru our membership and they lobby in Sacramento on a daily basis for legislation supporting the California business community.
I’ve heard people say, “We quit the chamber because they never did anything for me!”…What a joke! You can’t join the chamber with the idea that membership will bring immediate reciprocity. It doesn’t work that way. Chamber membership is only an effective business tool with active member participation; seminars, mixers, membership meetings, business expo; these Chamber activities create exposure and exposure is an effective path to increased
business.
When I first joined the MCC after starting the Bear Creek Chronicle I immediately went to the Chamber’s membership directory, looking for a bookkeeper and for help with advertiser graphics; I knew that if a company belonged to the chamber, they were reputable; in business "for the long haul;” and anxious to contribute to and participate in the dynamic of business here in Murrieta. I found and hired Brandon’s Bookkeeping Services right from the Chamber’s
Membership Directory. The Chamber’s membership directory is a valuable resource for me as I publish the Bear Creek Chronicle every other month and I have used the MCC member firm label service to do direct mail as I look for new advertisers.
The list goes on….two more examples; the Chamber web site is a valuable resource for new families and companies wanting to establish new business connections in our city.
And even more important, is something I call “credentialization.” All my sales literature and Bear Creek Chronicle letterhead carries the Chamber Logo and the word, “Member.” I want my customers, my advertisers, and all those I folks I deal with to understand that I am a proud member of the MCC…so proud that I print it on all of my sales material and letterhead…and that street goes two ways......by showing the MCC logo I immediately establish myself
as an ethical and responsible member of the Murrieta business community; my “credentialization” is immediately established. I’m glad I belong…its been good for my business!
